Vargas Llosa og Flaubert

Da jeg fant ut at Mario Vargas Llosa har skrevet en hel bok om sitt forhold til Flaubert og Madame Bovary, ble jeg nysgjerrig og bestilte boken fra Amazon.co.uk.

The Perpetual Orgy is a marvelous companion piece to Flaubert's novel. Vargas Llosa shows a deep critical understanding of the text, and offers a useful gloss on it, but it is particularly his personal relationship with the book -- what it has meant for him and what he has gotten out of it -- that make it valuable.
       Highly recommended.

Lover of blogs of book-lovers, I have for years read your blog, where one can always find something interesting about a new or an old book. Unfortunately as I write in Portuguese language my own blog, I have nothing to offer you back.

Time and time again I had read your posts about Even Fen and that marvelous place now closed: the old Oslo Nyeantikvariat. It was something I should had write myself, about a man to whom I devote a friendship that begun in the beginning of the nineties, as I as a poor anonymous Portuguese sailor, would walk from the harbor to that corner of Mayorstuevein to buy books from him and from his partner, the old philosopher. I was “adopted” in that time, by both of them. And started a long war with the old gray register machine that you certainly remember on top of his desk by the window: they always took less money for the books than the real price.

It is with a certain kind of gratitude, that I read what you had written about the man and the place. That someone writes you this, and reads you from Paraná in Brasil in this moment, is something you would perhaps be far from imagine. Thanks again for the pleasure of years reading your blog.

soliplass: So nice to hear from you! Imagine that I have a reader in Brasil. I understand that we both have good memories of Oslo Nye Antikvariat, and that we share the love of books.

Ah, interessant. Jeg har ikke prøvd meg på Vargas Llosa, men kanskje det er på tide?
